Healing in a World of Division
- Faith
To the one who feels numb,
I see you. I have been you. And I want you to know this season is not the end of your faith, it is part of it.
There are moments in the journey with God when the fire feels dim. The songs that once moved you no longer stir your soul. The prayers that used to pour out of you feel stuck in your throat. You sit in church or open your Bible and wonder why it feels like nothing is getting through. And in the quiet corners of your heart, you start to ask, “What’s wrong with me?”
I want to tell you, nothing is wrong with you. You are not faithless, you are not abandoned, you are not broken beyond repair. You are tired. You are worn. You are human.
When your spirit feels flat, it is easy to believe the lie that God has walked away. Silence feels like absence. Distance feels like rejection. But the truth is, even here, even in your numbness, God is holding you. He has not taken one step back from you. The presence you long for is still surrounding you.
God is not grading your passion. He is not waiting for you to “feel” the right way before He draws near again. He already promised never to leave you or forsake you. Your numbness does not cancel His nearness.

Spiritual numbness often comes when life has worn us down. You may be carrying grief that has not been processed, stress that has not been named, or pain that you have tucked away because it felt too heavy to hold. Sometimes your nervous system is simply trying to protect you by turning down the volume of emotion. Numbness is often your body’s way of saying, “I cannot carry one more thing.”
Instead of fighting it or shaming yourself for it, I want you to hear this: even numbness can be holy ground. It is not proof of distance, it is an invitation to rest.
I will not give you quick fixes because numbness is not something you snap out of. It is something you move through with gentleness, patience, and honesty. Here are a few practices that have helped me when I have walked through it:
You are not disqualified from God’s love because you cannot feel it. Feelings are not the proof of His presence. His promise is.
You do not need to perform to come back. You do not need to pretend to be on fire when you are not. God is not waiting for you to fix yourself. He is waiting for you to rest in Him, even in this.
So let this be your invitation. Come home, even tired. Come home, even flat. Come home, even silent. He has not left. He is not disappointed. He is not distant. He is still holding you.
This season will not last forever. Your soul will wake up again. Your heart will burn again. Your spirit will rise again. Until then, lean back into the arms that have been steady all along.
With love and hope for your journey,
Kelsey
I’m Kelsey. For decades I’ve walked alongside women through chronic pain, burnout, motherhood, faith shifts, and the complicated in-between seasons of life.
What I know for certain: real change doesn’t come from doing more. It comes from surrendering what we’ve been forced to be to what we really want to BECOME. Aligning with what matters most to experience the “more” your soul craves.

The Kelsey Mercer Podcast explores what it actually looks like to live with purpose, resilience, and connection — in every season. No polish, no pretense. Just honest dialogue on faith, health, relationships, and the work of becoming.
