Your hard workouts are hurting you!

For most of my life, I saw fitness and faith as two separate worlds. Exercise was something I did for my body. Worship was something I did with my spirit. But over time, I realized that these two are not meant to live in different compartments. They are designed to flow together.
Your body was made for worship. Every breath you take is a reminder of the life God placed within you. Every stretch, every stride, every lifted hand can be an offering. When you begin to see movement as sacred, fitness becomes more than physical. It becomes an invitation to connect with God in your very bones and breath.
Scripture is clear that our bodies are not an afterthought. First Corinthians 6:19 tells us that our body is a temple of the Holy Spirit. That means how we treat, move, and even posture our body matters. Romans 12:1 invites us to present our bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God. This is worship.
So when you take care of your physical health, when you stretch, when you walk, when you lift, you are not just doing something for yourself. You are honoring the temple. You are offering your body back to the One who created it.
Have you ever noticed how much of prayer involves the body? Kneeling, bowing, lifting hands, or simply closing your eyes and breathing deeply. Movement has always been part of prayer. It is not about performance or perfection. It is about posture.
Think about this:
When you bring intention into your movement, your workout becomes worship.

For those of us walking through healing—emotional, spiritual, or physical—movement plays a vital role. Trauma and stress live in the body. They tighten muscles, shorten breath, and weigh heavy in the chest. Movement releases what words cannot always reach.
Pairing movement with faith multiplies that healing. When you stretch and breathe Scripture, when you walk and pray, when you move your body with gratitude, you are teaching your nervous system that it is safe, loved, and grounded in God’s presence.
You don’t need a perfect workout routine to begin. You only need intention. Here are some simple ways to start weaving worship into your movement:
Too often, fitness gets tangled up in proving something: proving worth, proving strength, proving discipline. But when you integrate faith, you step out of the hustle. Movement is no longer about calorie counts or body image. It becomes about wholeness. It becomes about honoring the temple. It becomes about aligning body and spirit with the God who gave them both.
This shift not only heals your relationship with fitness, it heals your relationship with yourself. You stop punishing your body and start partnering with it. You stop pushing through for perfection and start moving with presence.
God is not only found in the church pew or the prayer closet. He is found in the inhale of a jog, in the strength of a push-up, in the stillness of a yoga pose, in the laughter of dancing in your kitchen. Every movement can be holy if you invite Him into it.
You don’t have to separate your workouts from your worship anymore. You can let your whole body become part of the offering. When you do, you’ll find that movement not only strengthens your muscles, it strengthens your spirit. It grounds your healing, lifts your perspective, and opens your heart wider to the presence of God.
Your body was made for worship. Movement can be prayer. Stillness can be surrender. Every workout can be sacred when you see it through the lens of faith. So the next time you move, invite God in. Let your breath carry His peace. Let your posture reflect His promises. Let your strength remind you that you are never moving alone.

What I know for certain: real change doesn’t come from doing more. It comes from surrendering what we’ve been forced to be to what we really want to BECOME. Aligning with what matters most to experience the “more” your soul craves.

The Kelsey Mercer Podcast explores what it actually looks like to live with purpose, resilience, and connection — in every season. No polish, no pretense. Just honest dialogue on faith, health, relationships, and the work of becoming.
