How Small Shifts Can Create Big Breakthroughs
- Focus
There was a season in my life when I thought tension meant progress. If I was striving, pushing, or constantly on edge, I believed I was growing. But the truth was that tension drained me. It left me anxious and disconnected from the peace I longed for.
What I have discovered is that intention is what truly creates healing. Tension comes from striving, but intention comes from alignment. When I live with clear intention, I can focus on what matters most, and the peace that follows is not forced. It flows.
Tension shows up when we live from pressure instead of purpose. We feel it in our bodies — tight shoulders, clenched jaws, shallow breaths. We feel it in our minds — racing thoughts, constant stress, and never feeling like we measure up.
Tension whispers that we must do more, be more, achieve more. But in reality, it robs us of energy. It drains our creativity. It disconnects us from the present. Tension is not strength. It is strain.
Intention, on the other hand, is steady and focused. It doesn’t demand perfection. It simply asks for clarity. When I live with intention, I know why I am choosing what I choose. I stop scattering my energy across too many directions.
Intention is peaceful because it aligns me with my values and with God’s design for my life. It is not about hustling harder but about choosing wisely. One intentional step has more impact than ten frantic ones.

This simple reset helps your body and mind shift from pressure to peace.
Tension will always try to pull us into striving. But intention invites us back into alignment. When we choose to live with clarity and focus, our lives begin to feel lighter. Healing comes more naturally, because we are no longer fighting ourselves.
Intention heals. Tension harms. And the choice between them is often made in small daily decisions; choosing alignment over anxiety, peace over pressure, and purpose over striving.

What I know for certain: real change doesn’t come from doing more. It comes from surrendering what we’ve been forced to be to what we really want to BECOME. Aligning with what matters most to experience the “more” your soul craves.

The Kelsey Mercer Podcast explores what it actually looks like to live with purpose, resilience, and connection — in every season. No polish, no pretense. Just honest dialogue on faith, health, relationships, and the work of becoming.
