Healing in a World of Division
- Faith
For much of my life, I thought healing would happen only if I worked hard enough. If I read the right books, prayed long enough, journaled deeply enough, maybe then everything would fall into place. And beneath all of that striving was a fear that if I did not hold tightly to the outcome, everything would fall apart.
Maybe you have felt the same. Maybe you have tried to micromanage your healing, your relationships, or even your faith journey. It is exhausting. It leaves you feeling like you are carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders, and yet somehow, you still feel like you are not doing enough.
What I have learned is this: letting go does not mean you are giving up. Letting go means you are handing it back to God. It is trusting that He knows how to weave your story better than you do. And it is realizing that His outcomes are always better than your control.
Control feels safe. It feels like if we can manage all the details, we can avoid pain, disappointment, or failure. But the truth is, control is an illusion. Life rarely unfolds exactly as we planned, and when it doesn’t, our grip often tightens even more.
I remember seasons where I thought if I could just plan my way through pain, I would not have to feel it. I scheduled, I strategized, I built walls of perfectionism around me. But in the end, all it did was delay the healing I truly needed.
God does not ask us to hold all the pieces together. He asks us to place them in His hands.
Letting go is not passive. It is not resignation. It is active trust. It is a daily choice to say, “God, I believe You are better at being God than I am.”
When you release the outcome, you give God space to move. You stop clinging to your limited view and make room for His infinite wisdom. You stop obsessing over the “what ifs” and begin resting in the “even if.” Even if it does not turn out the way I imagined, I trust that God is still good, still present, and still faithful.

Sometimes we do not realize how much we are clinging until we pause long enough to notice. Here are a few signs that you may still be holding the outcome too tightly:
If any of these resonate with you, it might be time to loosen your grip and allow God to carry what was never yours to hold.
Letting go is not a one-time event. It is a rhythm, a posture you return to again and again. Here are some practices that have helped me, and I believe they can help you too:
Letting go is not about losing control, it is about finding freedom. When you stop forcing outcomes, you begin to notice God’s fingerprints on the process. You begin to see that the detours were actually the design. You begin to trust that His timing, though different than yours, is always perfect.
So if you are weary from holding too tightly, hear me clearly: you do not have to carry it all. You are not failing by releasing it. In fact, you are stepping into the truest kind of strength—the strength of surrender.
God is writing a story in your life that is richer, deeper, and more redemptive than anything you could script. Trust Him with the unfolding.

What I know for certain: real change doesn’t come from doing more. It comes from surrendering what we’ve been forced to be to what we really want to BECOME. Aligning with what matters most to experience the “more” your soul craves.

The Kelsey Mercer Podcast explores what it actually looks like to live with purpose, resilience, and connection — in every season. No polish, no pretense. Just honest dialogue on faith, health, relationships, and the work of becoming.
