Healing in a World of Division
- Faith
When you begin to pursue healing, you may notice that resistance rises up. It is not just emotional resistance. It can feel spiritual too. The moment you decide to face your pain, you may suddenly encounter distractions, doubts, or a heaviness that seems to come out of nowhere. This is not your imagination. Scripture reminds us that our battle is not against flesh and blood but against powers and principalities that want to keep us bound.
Healing is holy work, which means it often attracts opposition. Yet God equips us with everything we need to stand strong, walk in truth, and press forward into freedom.
Spiritual warfare does not always look like dramatic battles. More often, it is subtle. It slips into the cracks of your mind, your emotions, and your relationships.
Here are common ways it shows up when you are in a healing season:
Recognizing these patterns helps you see that you are not weak or failing. You are facing resistance because you are moving forward.

Ephesians 6 tells us to put on the full armor of God so we can stand against the schemes of the enemy. Notice the language: stand. You do not have to fight in your own strength. Your role is to stand in what God has already given you.
These are not abstract ideas. They are daily practices that anchor you when the opposition feels real.
When you feel the weight of resistance during healing, here are steps you can take:
If you are experiencing unusual heaviness, discouragement, or confusion in your healing process, do not assume you are doing something wrong. More often, it is confirmation that you are on the right path. Resistance rises when transformation is near.
Remember that God has not left you unequipped. You already have His Spirit within you, the same power that raised Christ from the dead. You do not fight alone, and you do not fight empty-handed.
Healing is holy, and holy work is always worth the fight. Do not let distraction, doubt, or discouragement convince you to stop. God is with you in the battle, and He promises that your freedom is secure in Him.
So when resistance shows up, stand firm. Put on the armor. Speak truth louder than lies. And keep walking forward. The warfare is real, but so is your victory.

What I know for certain: real change doesn’t come from doing more. It comes from surrendering what we’ve been forced to be to what we really want to BECOME. Aligning with what matters most to experience the “more” your soul craves.

The Kelsey Mercer Podcast explores what it actually looks like to live with purpose, resilience, and connection — in every season. No polish, no pretense. Just honest dialogue on faith, health, relationships, and the work of becoming.
