Why Laughter Belongs in Your Healing Journey
- Fun

There was a time when I thought joy had to come from big, dramatic changes — vacations, achievements, or milestones. But the truth is that the joy that heals us most often comes in simple, everyday moments.
Joy is not complicated. It is available in the smallest practices when we slow down long enough to notice. These small joys have the power to shift your perspective, lift your spirit, and create space for healing in your day.
Healing does not always require massive steps. Sometimes it begins with the smallest invitations. When we look for joy in simple things, we remind ourselves that God’s presence is woven into the ordinary.
Small joys help us:
Joy becomes less about chasing and more about noticing.
Research shows that joy, gratitude, and laughter reduce stress hormones, lower blood pressure, and strengthen the immune system. Even brief moments of joy can rewire the brain to focus more on hope than on fear.
Spiritually, joy is a gift from God. It is not tied to circumstance but to presence. Choosing joy in small ways is a way of saying yes to God’s design for peace and wholeness in your life.

Here are five joys I practice daily to keep my spirit grounded and light:
Pause and breathe. Ask yourself: “What joy is already in front of me?” It could be sunlight, a smile, a meal, or even a quiet moment. Let yourself notice, and let that joy become prayer.
Joy does not have to be complicated. It does not have to wait for milestones or achievements. Healing often begins in the smallest practices, the little choices to notice and invite joy into your day.
Joy heals when you invite it in daily.
I’m Kelsey. For decades I’ve walked alongside women through chronic pain, burnout, motherhood, faith shifts, and the complicated in-between seasons of life.
What I know for certain: real change doesn’t come from doing more. It comes from surrendering what we’ve been forced to be to what we really want to BECOME. Aligning with what matters most to experience the “more” your soul craves.

The Kelsey Mercer Podcast explores what it actually looks like to live with purpose, resilience, and connection — in every season. No polish, no pretense. Just honest dialogue on faith, health, relationships, and the work of becoming.
