I’ve been accused most of my life of being so serious, when in fact I’m really just very focused and love to have fun. Just today I was talking with a friend about how the older I get the more I realize how important it is to make time for fun and laughter.
I’ve been accused most of my life of being so serious, when in fact I’m really just very focused and love to have fun. Just today I was talking with a friend about how the older I get the more I realize how important it is to make time for fun and laughter.
I grew up chasing the dream and believing if life was going to be good and I was going to be successful it was foot to the pedal no looking back only 100% forward with no time to waste. Losing my mom at 16 showed me that life was so fragile and sometimes way too short and if I wanted life as I wished it- it was up to me to make it happen. Of course I believed and knew God was for me and working all things out but I also believed there wasn’t much time for fun and games when purposes needed to be fulfilled and plans made.
My youngest child is now 5 and while I will be the first to tell you don’t wait till the kids are old enough to have fun, travel and sleep again I did live that way for the first few years of parenting. We did everything as a family- hiking, traveling and even sleeping- in fact our 5 year old is still in our bed, but of course that’s not the point here this is not a conversation on the fun of a parenting sex life but…. Of course I still count that as fun by the way!
Ok back on track here, the fun meter can rise and fall so many times a day with blender full of emotions from all the kids running around, the grind and go and rather than schedule your fun as something that happens when I am away from “it all” I realized in order to experience a little more joy and light heartedness having fun was a required ingredient of my daily discipline just like the duties of “doing and working hard.” So today I learn to mix it up and incorporate fun with my kids at home, away from home and all on my own. My top 3 of each
The lake- waterskiing, paddleboarding, sunbathing and walks on the beach.
The mountain/woods- snow skiing, hiking and camping, and walks.
Mexico- sunshine, salt water and sunset/sunrise walks on the beach!
Dance party- hip hop and country swing
Playing cards
Conversations and story time around the table
Horseback riding
Reading | Massages
Dinner and wine with a good friend
